EMU & The Hundley Foundation

Sam Estes, former EMU football athlete and current Vice Chairman of the Hundley Foundation Board of Directors, recently returned home to visit his family. While in Michigan, Sam visited campus for a tour accompanied by President Smith and Dr. Connie Ruhl-Smith. During his visit, Sam engaged in discussions on a number of initiatives in which the EMU Foundation and The Hundley Foundation might work together.

The Hundley Foundation creates and supports initiatives that focus on health, wellness, and education in disenfranchised communities. The foundation also recognizes that experiences and journeys for kids, teens, and adults with epilepsy, autism, and other disabilities are all unique. Brett Hundley and his sister Paris founded the foundation and believe every child and family is stronger when they have the tools to succeed. Like The Hundley Foundation, The EMU Foundation is constantly evolving to meet community needs by building pathways to success for students during and after college. EMU offers practical knowledge and applicable experience seeded into the curriculum to connect them to real world issues they will face in their careers.

The Hundley Foundation and the EMU Foundation have joined forces to bring forth new projects that directly benefit EMU students along with initiatives that impact the Greater Detroit area and elsewhere. Blending the mission and vision of both foundations, one of the most significant projects to come out of Sam’s visit is a student athlete internship program. This internship allows for the infusion of “real world” experiences into the various EMU curricular areas. Funding to support these internships is generously provided by the Hundley Foundation.

Together these Foundations have crafted a weekend experience to further add support for EMU Athletics and the Hundley Foundation. In attendance will be Rick Harrison, best known for his Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas along with Brett Hundley, a professional football player/quarterback and the Founder of The Hundley Foundation. In addition to Rick and Brett, other professional athletes with EMU connections will be on campus in July to meet and greet guests and to engage in some truly unique interactions. The money raised from this weekend will go to support both EMU Athletics and the Hundley Foundation.
